When I think of the wines I’d like to be drinking over Christmas it goes something like this….
So I’ve put together a couple of Christmas six-packs for easy Christmas celebrating.
We’ve plenty of other delicious wines on the website if you prefer to rummage through and create your own pack. Perfect as gifts or for pulling out the perfect tipple when friends and family come over.
St Nick’s Picks 6-pack
Veuve Clicquot Brut NV
Grapes from as many as 50 to 60 different Crus are used for the blending of Yellow Label. The predominance of Pinot Noir provides the core structure of Clicquot, while a touch of Meunier rounds out the blend. Chardonnay adds elegance essential to a perfectly balanced wine.
Corymbia Rocket’s Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2020
“Lemon and sliced apple aromas, some gentle pastry and an overall purity and freshness. The fruit has been coaxed into a smoothly fleshy style on the palate with a bright apple, pear and lemon-flavoured finish. Beautifully balanced.”
94 points, Nick Stock, Gourmet Traveller WINE, October 2021.
Medhurst Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2021
“Pale, translucent greens and light straw, brilliant in the glass. The nose is complex with hints of gunflint and stone fruit. Some classy Frenck oak spice influence, its enticing and intense. The palate is poised and powerful, oak in the background it simply helps usher the beautiful pure fruit to the back of an effortless long and fine palate. This wine will look terrific over the medium term.” Winemaker's notes.
Spinifex Rose 2021
“The resulting wine offers the kind of vibrant texture and crunchy line that were once the exclusive domaine of Provençal rosé. Not anymore. With delicate red fruits, watermelon and a little white peach, it's a bone-dry and gently textured wine with lip-smacking energy and nervy cut. The finish is long, pristine, and focused. Gorgeous stuff.” Bibendum Wine Co.
Head Wines Head Red GSM 2019
Super fresh and juicy primary fruit is the star in this drop. In the glass this is a purpley, rosey red. On the nose you’ll find ripe and juicy cherries, raspberry jubes, caramel and lifted floral aromatics of fresia. On the palate, pomegranate and plums mingle with pepper and liquorice - clean bright acid ensuring nice balance. The wine has a lovely viscosity with soft tannins quietly shoring up its structure. Nice dry finish.
“50% grenache, 30% mataro and 20% shiraz from 25-76yo vines, wild yeast-open fermented with 10% whole bunches. Beautifully and harmoniously structured and textured, clarity and purity its watchwords.” 96 points, James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion.
Albino Rocca Moscato d’Asti 2019
It’s light, floral and fresh, with aromas and flavours of honeysuckle, citrus peel and pear. This is more structured than most Moscatos on the market and as serious as a Moscato can get, and at 5% a great way to finish a meal.
I can offer the pack for $200
Christmas Crackers 6-pack
Agrapart Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc NV (Dis 2021)
“Citrus, white flowers, white pepper and crushed rocks add a super appealing upper register. This release is a blend of equal parts 2016 and 2015, with about 25% of the wine done in neutral oak. Dosage is 5 grams per litre. Best of all, the Terroirs is a superb value.” 92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
Suavia Soave DOC Monte Carbonare 2020
“Forthright and truthful, with a sharp mineral nature. It tastes of rain on flint, on the black stones of the dry walls, and of that good fragrance that the countryside releases when dampened by the first rain.” Winemaker's notes.
Haddow and Dineen Grain of Truth Pinot Gris 2019
“Strong pear scents, almost like poached pears, touches of cinnamon spice, marzipan, lemon blossom. Really nice whiffs. Slick and rich in the palate, a generous, full-flavoured gris though there’s plenty of nice cut, spice and tang to keep the palate fresh and perky after each sip” 92 points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
Medhurst Rose 2021
"The pale salmon hue reflects whole-bunch pressed cabernet sauvignon and shiraz, fermented off skins. Wafts of perfume float in the air, rose petals to the fore. The unexpectedly intense fruits span spices, light and dark, and small forest berries. Typical Medhurst class." 95 points and a Special Vale rating. Halliday Wine Companion.
Domaine Chanson Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2020
“Bright red colour. Scents of violet mixed with crunchy aromas of ripe cherries and strawberries on a hint of spice. Complex and full of energy. Tight texture on a very pure fruit. Long aftertaste with spicy nuances.” Winemaker’s notes.
Terre a Terre Botrytis 2021 (750ml)
The first release of Botrytis is made with late harvested sauvignon blanc from the close-spaced Crayères Vineyard in Wrattonbully. Approximately 10% of the fruit was botrytis affected. The wine is super fresh and light, with floral flavours as well as orange marmalade and white truffle.
I can offer the pack for $345
