Chateau La Fleur-Petrus 2021
Since 1953 this highly regarded Pomerol estate has been owned by the Moueix family who own several other estates including famed Chateau Petrus (Pomerol), Chateau Trotanoy (Pomerol), Chateau Belair (St Emilon) and Dominus Estate (Napa).
From 1995 La Fleur-Petrus has been expanded with acquisitions from neighbouring Le Gay, and is now around 18ha. While the estate's vineyards stretch down to the boundary with Lalande de Pomerol, the best fruit is from the higher ground up near Petrus.
The 2021 vintage is a blend of 95% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.
"Succulent and juicy straight away, this has a little party in your mouth giving the chalky strawberry, perfumed blackcurrant, dark chocolate, liquorice and pencil lead all together - bringing a ton of fruit, spice and acidity with thrilling results. You get a touch of austerity still, the minerality and salinity on the tongue but I love the expression here. Feels well worked, all in harmony with such precision on show. Pure class with a seductive core, gentle frame but intense concentration. Super long finish. The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot really add that extra touch of deliciousness and intrigue. The star for me in the very impressive Moueix lineup this year."

"The 2021 La Fleur-Pétrus has realized all the potential it showed in barrel and stands out as a real success on the Right Bank. Wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, dark berries, licorice, anise, violets and baking chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a suave, seamless mid-palate that exhibits good depth and concentration. Drink 2025-2045."

"Silky tannins, not a word I am using often with this vintage (and one that I see only after tasting in bottle that I also used during the En Primeur tasting note). The emphasis is on blue fruits, black truffles, chamomile tea and bitter chocolate, with blueberry, cloves, liqourice root and rose petals, slender fruit structure but full of finesse and pleasure. September 23 to October 6 harvest, 50% new oak for ageing."
