Domaine Trapet Latricieres Chambertin Grand Cru 2021
"Louis considers that Latricières-Chambertin is typically three degrees cooler than neighbouring Combottes. 40% whole bunch vinification. Glowing purple. A touch of reduction on the nose but a vibrant luxurious fruit nonetheless. There is a gorgeous coating of a deep dark velvet fruit with the structure behind perfectly poised, refined tannins and clean acidity. Very long. A gorgeous wine in the making. Louis feels that 2020 lost the plot of Latricières – but not at all 2021. Drink from 2028-2038."

"The 2021 Latricières-Chambertin from Domaine Trapet is also down fifty percent this year due to the April frost damage. The wine is utterly classic on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet wafting from the glass in a black fruity blend of sweet dark berries, cassis, a complex base of black minerality, cigar wrapper, a touch of currant leaf, grilled meats, just a touch of stem tones, cedar and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and very transparent in profile, with a stunning core of fruit, great soil inflection, ripe, buried tannins and superb backend energy on the long, complex and seamlessly balanced finish. Great juice in the making. (Drink between 2036-2100)."

"The 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, historically the last Grand Cru picked, has a strict, backward, serious nose that is a bit grumpy at the moment. It gradually loosens up to reveal red fruit and touches of oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, sorbet-fresh red fruit with just a touch of oak to be assimilated on the finish. Very good potential - unashamedly Latricières."

"There is something about the cool 2021 vintage that ‘fits’ with Latricières, where the influence from the Combe Grisard is more pronounced. According to Pierre Trapet, ‘Latricières is the moon; Chapelle is the sun'. Initially, the result is somewhat restrained, with a charming pomegranate fruit emerging on the palate. The feel is linear and concentrated, with a mineral/saline character to the savoury fruit on the palate that carries this to a very long finish and the top level of Gevrey quality."
