Spinifex Papillon 2022
A Barossa blend of 87% cinsault and 15% grenache. "Inky dark color. Beautifully fragrant violet and wild-berry aromas and flavors. The palate has super succulent tannins that really stack in fine, powdery style. The finish is dry and really draws fresh raspberry and boysenberry flavors long. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
92 points, Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com
Cirillo Estate Vincent Grenache 2023
One of the most underrated wines in the country. 100% grenache sourced from 100+ year old vines in the Barossa.
This is clear ruby red in the glass. On the nose you’ll find whisps of rose petal, juicy raspberry jubes, vanilla and fennel seed. On the palate, raspberry and pomegranate notes meld with spicy liquorice and pepper. A medium weight wine - deliciously crisp acid and feathery soft tannins deftly bookend this nice dry finish.
Frankland Estate Shiraz 2020
“While the bouquet and palate alike are richly endowed, the cool continental climate shuts the door on any over-ripe, pudgy fruit characters. So, tannins play along with the black cherry fruit and utterly delicious savoury undertow. Drink to 2040.” 95 points and included in James Halliday's Top 100 Wines of 2022.
Medhurst Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2023
This is as good as entry level Yarra Valley pinot gets. "Vibrant cherry red, the colour is both alluring and deep for a young Pinot Noir. A highly perfumed complex nose with red fruits and savoury spice. The palate has a core of dark satsuma plums and cranberry fruit flavours and the mouthfeel is soft yet intense with terrific structure and a fresh clean natural acid backbone. A wine made for immediate consumption that will improve with careful cellaring over the medium term (3-5 years)." Winemaker's notes.
Ravensworth Barbera and Nebbiolo 2023
A great blend from highly acclaimed winemaker Byran Martin (ex Clonakilla). "Our tilt at the wonderful Lange blends from Piemonte. Barbera is just so juicy and zesty, the introduction of the more serious Nebbiolo tames this acidity and adds a wash of fine tannin. Like mash and gravy, they just work." Winemaker's notes.
Warramate Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2021
Increasingly referred to as Yarra Yering's 'Baby Dry Red No.1', this wine is a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon 25% merlot 15% malbec. It's 13.5% alcohol and is sealed with a screwcap. "Black mulberries and blueberry fruits with some bramble lift, a medium-bodied classic claret style. The succulent jubey fruit layered palate with some aniseed spice complexity and lovely chalky tannins. There is a brightness to the acid energy that underscores a wine of fruit purity and finesse." Winemaker's notes.
