The Terre a Terre Crayeres Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is fast becoming regarded as one of Australia's best sauvignon blancs. Every year it seems to receive praise, and this vintage is no exception, with the 2023 being rated as the Top rated Sauvignon Blanc in James Halliday's Wine Companion 2025.
Terre a Terre Crayeres Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Reviews
"Fermented in stainless steel tank (52%) and older oak (48%). Aged on full lees with no battonage. Pineapple, guava, perfectly ripe mango skin and lilikoi. Driving and elegant natural acidity and a wash of juicy tropical fruit with hints of glacé ginger and nutmeg spice. A fuzz of nettle texture and the wine finishes quite full bodied. It’s a sauvignon blanc made with care, attention to detail and purity of fruit."
97 points, Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion.
"There is a reason why this wine, the Terre a Terre Crayeres Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2023, is consistently amongst, if not the best Sauvignon Blanc in Australia, its consistency is metronomic and its impact and enjoyment unsurpassed for the aromatic white variety. The 2023 release seems a little richer and varietal than previous years with more openness of passionfruit and boysenberry fruit on the nose; the palate that unfurls layer after layer of interest with fruit generous but wonderfully held by tantalisingly pure acidity. There is a gently creamy texture that meets savoury influence on the mid palate. The finish has such great texture with time on lees giving weight and depth to pristine fruit. A revelation."

A bit more info about Wrattonbully and Terre a Terre.
Wrattonbully’s a great region that few have heard of - amazing given it directly joins Coonawarra’s northeastern boundary. It shares a similar climate to Coonawarra (and Bordeaux), as well as the same prized terra rossa soil over limestone, although the limestone in Wrattonbully is much older than in Coonawarra. In fact, the limestone caves that sit below Wrattonbully are part of the Naracoorte Caves National park, South Australia’s only World Heritage site.
Brian Croser acquired the Koppamurra Vineyard, one of the original two, in 2002, renaming it the Whalebone Vineyard, after the bones of a massive whale were found beneath it. Lucy Croser and Xavier Bizot bought a site next door to this in 2004, calling it the Crayères Vineyard, literally translating to ‘chalk pit’, Xavier tells me it’s also a local Champagne term for the network of cellars carved into the limestone there. Conditions here are very similar to St Emilion in Bordeaux. In 2008 they planted cabernet, shiraz, cabernet franc and sauvignon blanc. The vineyard is not certified organic but is managed with minimal use of chemicals.
