Yarra Yering Carrodus Pinot Noir 2019
“One of Australia’s vinous treasures,” Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak (UK).
“Best known for producing some of Australia's greatest wines,” Decanter Magazine.
“An Australian icon that delivers very special wines,” Berry Bros. & Rudd (Top UK wine merchant).
“Have always produced wines of extraordinary depth and intensity,” James Halliday, 5 stars.
I’m a big fan of the wines of Yarra Yering, especially since Sarah Crowe began weaving her magic as winemaker in 2013. Sarah was recognised for her excellence when she became the first woman to win the prestigious James Halliday Winemaker of the Year award in 2017.
“Yarra Yering wines have always been very good, but under the current management, they have hit new heights. Sarah Crowe is an outstanding winemaker…. Without any fanfare (she) puts out a bevy of fabulous wines year after year.” Huon Hooke, The Real Review, June 2019.
“Fruit from original 1969 plantings. Destemmed, whole berries into 600kg fermenters with some stalks. Matured in French oak, 40% new, for 10 months. This is all about refinement, and in a way, it has a deceptive gentleness, as the flavours are subtle, the oak has meshed into the body of the wine and the silky tannins weave across the palate. Arguably the finest Carrodus pinot to date.”
97 points, Jane Faulkner, 2022 Halliday Wine Companion.
"Medium to deep purple/red colour, very youthful, with a spicy, toasty, oak-driven aroma at first sniff; black cherry coming up with time in the glass. The palate is medium to full-bodied and oak initially seems uppermost in the flavour spectrum. Dark cherry again. The wine is fleshy and supple-textured, with gentle, soft tannins and good length. The aromatics are outstanding. Enormous palate length. This is a stunning pinot that will profit from a little cellaring."
98 points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
