This is as good as entry level Yarra Valley pinot gets.
The 2024 is a very aromatic and pretty wine, with a hint of savouriness. Delicious.
"Perfumed aromatics of rosehip, peonies, cranberry and warm baking spices waft from the glass. The palate is salacious and juicy and full of red fruits with layers of strawberry, red currants and blood orange framed by silky fine tannin and a touch of spicy oak. Whilst this wine is made for immediate enjoyment it will cellar well for 3 to 5 years."
Winemaker's notes.
An enormous amount of care is lavished on Medhurst’s wines, both in the vineyard and winery. All the fruit is grown on the estate and yields in the vineyard are super low. Picking is done entirely by hand and the wines I'm writing about today were all fermented using wild yeasts. This sort of attention and the resulting quality costs a lot of money, yet all the wines are very modestly priced. The incredible value for money is no doubt a deliberate strategy, but one that can’t last indefinitely. Even at significantly higher prices I still think the Medhurst wines represent great value for money - at current prices they’re a steal!
